Our Cattle
We have been breeding Angus cattle here in the Upper Lachlan Shire for the last 28 years. Back then, we started off with a small commercial cattle herd, producing steers for market, and keeping a number of replacement heifers in-herd.
We began the stud back in 2006 with the idea that showing cattle would be a bit of fun, and breeding stud bulls would be a good way to improve genetics within our local market. Today we run a select herd of registered females and using a variety of genetics from across Australia and around the world, we are excited to share the opportunities these bloodlines bring. With a number of bulls available for sale each year, we aim to help that our client’s beef herds go from strength to strength.
Breeding Philosophy
Longevity
We focus on breeding cattle that last. Our animals are structurally correct, good-footed, and fertile.
Doability
Having cattle that have strong growth rates and maintain their condition across the seasons means better returns for for less for our clients.
Docility
Quiet cattle are not only safer to work and easier to manage, but less stress means a better meat quality at market.
FAQs
-
Our bulls are available out of the paddock through private treaty. We typically have bulls available throughout the year, so please reach out and we can talk about what we have available.
-
We offer bulls of all ages! Our bulls are available from 12 months on, but we typically hold them until 15-18 months. Occasionally, we will offer an older bull that has been used in herd. If you are looking for a specifically-ages bull please let us know!
-
All bulls we sell will come semen tested by our local vet. We are happy to provide a certificate of this prior to purchase. We ensure that all bulls are structurally sound and uninjured on sale.
-
We guarantee that all bulls are fertile and able to breed within 6 months of purchase. We also ensure bulls are uninjured and ready to work upon leaving Tickalara.
If issues occur, the purchaser will need to provide a veterinary report indicating the bull’s inability to service cows, and confirm that this is not due to an injury or illness that occurred on-property within this 6 month period.
On receiving this, we will work with the purchaser to provide a refund or credit towards another bull!

During the last drought, we had to reduce our cow herd significantly. As such, we are in herd-building mode and are only offering females through private treaty and upon request.
We are also working on building up a genetic base from some of our favourite cows. We are looking forward to offering some unique and exciting joinings in the coming year!

EBV’s are just one tool to use when selecting and breeding cattle. For us, the structural soundness, easy-doing ability, and type of animal are first priorities. From here, we will integrate EBVs into our decision-making-process.
We are working on ensuring we collect as much data as possible from our herd, and look forward to getting to a stage where our EBV accuracies are consistently high enough to reflect the traits they are measuring.
